Live alt-rock, grunge and shoegaze performance by the band MX Lonely at The Hope & Ruin.
MX Lonely play The Hope & Ruin on Sunday 15 November, with the set starting at 7:00 pm. It's a single-act bill, so they're the only name on the night.
They work across alt-rock, grunge and shoegaze, and the three sit comfortably together. The grunge side brings the heavier, distorted guitar sounds; the shoegaze adds the wash of noise and texture; the alt-rock holds it all together. It's a sound that doesn't lean too hard on any one of them, but lets them overlap.
The Hope & Ruin is a 150-capacity room above a pub on Queens Road, and it's one of the venues in Brighton that keeps a steady rotation of live shows from local and international artists. Between the music, they run a regular poetry night and the odd late-night club, and the bar pours its own Hope & Ruin Mosaic Pale Ale. It's a small space, so you're close to the stage.
