Mercury Prize-shortlisted, MOBO Award-winning drummer Moses Boyd performs live at Concorde 2 in Brighton.
Moses Boyd plays Concorde 2 on Wednesday 31 March, a night presented by JOY. He's a London drummer, composer and producer, and this is his first Brighton date in a while.
He's touring Songs for Sinners, which is his first record in six years. He describes it as a deeply personal work that pulls together gospel, jazz, soundsystem culture, Caribbean rhythms, 808s and choir harmonies — a fair bit of ground to cover on one album. His debut, Dark Matter, came out in 2020, so there's a decent gap between the two.
Boyd has spent the years in between working across a few different scenes. He's toured with Sampha and Kelsey Lu, played on Sons of Kemet's Mercury-nominated album, and worked with DJ Lag. He produced Zara McFarlane's Arise for Brownswood and co-leads Binker and Moses with saxophonist Binker Golding. He's also written original scores for Louis Vuitton and Grace Wales Bonner, so he's as comfortable in a studio or a fashion house as he is on a stage.
