Modern Woman

Modern Woman play The Prince Albert on Wednesday 3 February, with the set built around their debut album, Johnny's Dreamworld. It's a London art-rock outfit fronted by Sophie Harris, who also wrote the songs, and the night is a chance to hear that record played live in Brighton.

Johnny's Dreamworld came out on 1 May 2026 on their new label, One Little Independent Records. It was shaped with producer Joel Burton, and the lyrics lean into literary detail, a fascination with the dark underbelly of the everyday, and the contradictions of womanhood. The band itself grew out of Harris's early, intimate songwriting, which eventually expanded into a full-bodied group capable of folding post-punk, avant-garde, and folk traditions into a live force of dynamic originality.

That expansion happened when Harris met violinist and composer David Denyer, and they were joined by Juan Brint-Gutiérrez on bass and saxophone, and Adam Blackhurst on drums. With a violin and a saxophone in the mix alongside the usual guitar, bass, and drums, the line-up explains how they pull from those different traditions — post-punk, avant-garde, and folk — and bring them together on one stage.

The gig starts at 8:00pm at The Prince Albert, and tickets are £16.90, which includes the booking fee.
