A comedy fundraiser with stand-up, drag and sparkling performances supporting LGBTQ mental health.
Mindout For Laughs returns to Komedia on Thursday 3 September, a comedy fundraiser for MindOut, the Brighton mental health service run by and for lesbians, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people with experience of mental health issues. The night brings together stand-up, drag and sparkling performances, with the proceeds going directly to local LGBTQ people facing mental health challenges and suicidal distress. MindOut provides counselling, advocacy, online chats and more, and the fundraiser helps keep those services running.
The timing of the night is part of the point. MindOut's director, Peter Nesbitt, describes laughter as "a powerful antidote to stigma", and the fundraiser feeds a service whose demand rises sharply in winter, climbing 43% over the Christmas period. It's a pressing cause: more than 70% of the LGBTQ community report depression, and one in eight LGBTQ people aged 18 to 24 have attempted suicide.

The venue is Komedia, the South Coast's leading comedy club, which has been a go-to spot for nearly 30 years. This particular show takes place in the Basement, at 44-47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the show starts at 7:30 PM. Tickets are £10 for concessions and £18 standard, though these are guide prices and subject to change.
