Midnight Cowgirls

Midnight Cowgirls play The Hope & Ruin on Tuesday 22 September, as part of their first UK tour. They're a Los Angeles-based feminine collective, and the Brighton date is one of several stops on their first run of shows across the pond.

Their sound is a broad one: they describe it as a blend of country, rock, metal, post-punk and rockabilly, and they talk about it in terms of country grit and rock 'n' roll swagger. It's a fair bit to pull together in one set, and that's where the line-up comes in. The band was conceptualised by songwriter, bassist and stylist Jennie Vee, who's worked with Eagles of Death Metal and Courtney Love. Leading the group is multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and lead vocalist Blaise Dahl, alongside drummer, vocalist and composer Marlhy Murphy, and guitarist and vocalist Cassidy Fleeman. With three voices across the band, they've got the room to lean into the country side of things without losing the rock 'n' roll edge.

They've spent their time in the States opening for some heavy hitters, too. They've shared stages with rockabilly legends The Stray Cats, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jack White and Eagles of Death Metal, and they've caught the attention of Sirius XM Outlaw Country. This Brighton show is part of their first UK tour, so it's one of the first times you'll be able to hear them over here.
