Stand-up comedy show by Micky Overman at Komedia, exploring the contrast between a worsening world and an improving personal life.
Micky Overman brings her new show, Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time, to the Komedia Basement on Wednesday 29 September 2027. It's her first Brighton date since her last international tour, which ended with a sold-out night at the Royal Theater CarrΓ© in Amsterdam. This is a brand-new hour, and the central question she works around is how to make sense of a world that keeps getting worse when your own life keeps getting better.
Overman is an award-nominated comedian and writer, and she's built a huge following online β over 325,000 followers and tens of millions of views. That digital reach sits alongside TV work on ITV2 and Channel 4, and appearances on LUBACH, so she's well-known both in Britain and abroad. The reviews usually point to the same thing: her precision. The Observer called her style a "pin-sharp torrent of precision gags and delightfully silly one-liners," and Chortle described her lines as "top-notch" and not out of place in an A-lister's Netflix special. The Scotsman summed it up as "wit, precision and more than a little mischief."
That's the kind of set you can expect here: spot-on observations, funny stories, and, as she puts it, "a nugget of wisdom or two" β though she adds that the wisdom isn't guaranteed. It's a night that leans on the sharp, one-liner side of stand-up rather than long-form storytelling, so it's more about the punchline than the build-up.
