Stand-up comedy show by award-nominated comedian Micky Overman at Komedia, exploring the contrast between a worsening world and an improving personal life.
Micky Overman brings her new show, Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time, to Komedia on Wednesday 29 September. It's her first Brighton date since her last international tour, which ended with a sold-out Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam.
The new show works around a single, nagging question: how do you make sense of a world that keeps getting worse when your own life keeps getting better? It's a premise that sits right in the middle of the set, and the night is built from there, mixing spot-on observations and stories with a few nuggets of wisdom thrown in — though she's quick to admit the wisdom isn't guaranteed.
Overman is an award-nominated comedian and writer who's built a following of over 325,000 followers and tens of millions of views online. She's appeared on ITV2, Channel 4 and LUBACH, and has a reputation for being one of the sharpest voices in comedy both in Britain and beyond. The critics have been pretty specific about what that looks like: The Observer called her style a "pin-sharp torrent of precision gags and delightfully silly one-liners", Chortle described her lines as "top-notch" and not out of place in an A-lister's Netflix special, and The Scotsman found her work full of "wit, precision and more than a little mischief.
