A creative workshop combining craft and conversation to explore experiences of hysterectomy in a safe space, part of the Brighton Festival.
This Saturday, May 23rd, there is a workshop happening in Brighton that approaches the experience of having a hysterectomy through a different lens: creativity. Titled Making Meaning: A Creative Space for Hysterectomy Stories, the session is part of the Brighton Festival’s 'Festival of Ideas' and is being led by Dr. Jill Kirby and Dr. Ali Ramsey from the University of Sussex. The idea behind the event is to use craft as a medium to share personal testimonies, talk through experiences, and explore the topic in a space that feels a bit more relaxed than a clinical setting.

The workshop is designed for anyone who has personally gone through a hysterectomy, or for those who are close to someone who has. It is essentially a space for conversation and making things, with the organisers providing both the materials and refreshments. It takes place at The Beach House, Yellowave, running from 14:00 to 16:00. It is a straightforward setup: you show up, you get involved in the craft activities, and you have the opportunity to share stories or simply listen to others in a similar position.
If you are thinking of attending, tickets are priced at £15 for general admission, with a concession rate of £10 available. There is a £3.50 booking fee if you choose to book online or over the phone, though this does not apply if you are a member of the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival. It is a specific kind of event, but for those looking to connect with others or process these experiences through a creative outlet, it offers a structured environment to do so.
