Macbeth by The HandleBards

The HandleBards bring Macbeth to the Brighton Open Air Theatre (BOAT) on Thursday 10 September, starting at 19:00. It's part of a summer tour that's taking environmentally sustainable Shakespeare to venues across the UK, and this is their Brighton stop.

If you know the play, you know it's usually a bleak affair — ambition, betrayal, and a fair bit of blood. The HandleBards do it differently. They describe their take as hilariously high-octane, full of mishaps, mayhem and mirth rather than tears and tragedy. It's the same story, just played for laughs, so it's a good one to bring along if you're not in the mood for a heavy night at the theatre.

BOAT is a 400-seat open-air venue in Dyke Road Park, so you'll be watching this one outside. It's on Dyke Road, BN3 6EH, and since it's an open-air space, it's worth keeping the weather in mind when you're planning your evening. The HandleBards are an intrepid troupe, and this is one of the many stops they're making this summer as they tour their version of the Scottish play around the country.

Tickets are £12.00 for a standard seat and £17.50 for concession, though these are guide prices and subject to change. The show starts at 19:00 on Thursday 10 September at the Brighton Open Air Theatre in Dyke Road Park.
