A nostalgic brunch party with R&B, Hip Hop and Soul, with DJs Ethan Porte and J Rich, featuring bottomless drinks and food.
Love U Better is back at Patterns on Saturday 19 September, another one of their R&B, hip hop and soul brunch parties. It runs from 15:00 to 19:00, so it's a proper afternoon thing rather than a late one.
If you haven't been to one before, the format is pretty straightforward: the first hour is bottomless drinks and food, and then the music takes over. The DJs they're working with for this one are J Rich and guest DJ Ethan Porte, with Hursty on the mic as host. Between the two of them, they'll be digging through the R&B, hip hop and soul that the night is built around.
There's a specific approach to the music here, too. Love U Better describes their parties as being dedicated to "real R&B, hip hop and soul", and they're open about what that means in practice. They champion everything from 90s anthems and deep-cut album tracks to newer R&B artists, and they make a point of playing full songs rather than just the TikTok loops that tend to dominate the radio these days. It's that mix of the well-known and the more obscure that keeps it from feeling like a greatest hits set.
