Leibniz lead a four-band bill at The Hope & Ruin on Thursday 20 August, with Instrument of God, Hollowpoint and Tapped Out joining them. The night is presented by Stones Throw X Show Me Your Style.
Leibniz are a Brighton grungecore/queercore trio who pull from grunge, hardcore and shoegaze, playing with an intense, cathartic energy in the name of trans liberation and relief from emotional turmoil. Instrument of God come from Southampton, a metalcore act for fans of Trustkill Records and 2000s post-hardcore. Hollowpoint play emo, melodic hardcore-adjacent nu-gaze, and Tapped Out are a PO beatdown act, 18+.
Between them, the four bands cover a fair bit of ground: grungecore, metalcore, emo-nu-gaze and beatdown. It's a heavy line-up, with the sound shifting from the shoegaze-inflected side of Leibniz and Hollowpoint through to the more direct metalcore of Instrument of God and the beatdown of Tapped Out.

The Hope & Ruin is a 150-capacity room above a busy pub that hosts live shows from local and international artists alongside a regular poetry night and the odd late-night club. There's a bar serving draft lagers, beers and ciders, plus the venue's own Hope & Ruin Mosaic Pale Ale, and a ground-floor bar to hang out in before and after gigs. The show starts at 7:00 pm.
