The Venkat Trust's first charity comedy night with a line-up of comedians, with ticket sales funding education and support for children in Kovalam, South India.
The Venkat Trust is putting on its first-ever charity comedy night, Laugh out Loud for A Great Cause, at Rockwater in Hove on Sunday 25 October. It's a full evening of stand-up, and the money from ticket sales goes straight to funding education and support for children in the fishing village of Kovalam, near Chennai in South India. Trustee Frankie Knight described it as a chance to 'come for the punchlines and stay for the impact'.
Four comedians make up the bill: Ingrid Dahle, Rich Wilson, Kate McGann and William Stone. Between them they'll cover the whole night, and there's a raffle with prizes running alongside the acts. It's a proper line-up rather than just a few spots, so you're getting a full evening of comedy for your ticket.
The night leans on Brighton's reputation as the comedy capital of the South East. The city's venues range from the Brighton Centre and Brighton Dome to the award-winning Komedia in the North Laine, which has been the city's premier live entertainment venue for just under 30 years, and the multi-purpose Ironworks Studios, a five-minute walk from the main train station. This is the first time The Venkat Trust has stepped into that scene with its own comedy night.
