Neale is a US minimalist lo-fi auteur whose songs are built on a fascination with opposites: darkness and light, love and ambivalence, beauty and grotesqueness, motion and stillness. Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and now living in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles, she works with a warbling vulnerability that disguises sadness with beauty and illuminates the beauty in sadness. Her performances are rooted in the raw intimacy of home recording, and her latest work, recorded on a Tascam cassette 8-track, stays true to a commitment to minimalism and sharp insights into the human condition. Her debut album, I'll Be Your Man, is out.
