A concert featuring a varied selection of works for flute and piano by members of New Music Brighton.
If you are looking for a way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Brighton, there is a classical music concert coming up on June 6, 2026, at the Friends' Meeting House. Klio Blonz, on flute, and Jane Beament, on piano, are returning to perform as part of the New Music Brighton season. It is a bit of a reunion, as the organisers have worked with both musicians previously back in 2023.

The programme for this concert is quite specific, focusing on a mix of works for flute alone and pieces for flute and piano, all composed by members of New Music Brighton. It is an interesting look at contemporary local composition. The setlist includes 'Rising Flower' by Martyn C Adams, 'Karína (Caprice for Flute and Piano)' by Basil Richmond, and 'Five Aspects (for Alto Flute)' by Peter Copley. They will also be playing 'Songs of the Mad Army' by Simon Hopkins, the first movement of the 'Sonata for Flute and Piano' by John Petley, and 'Aria and Waltz' from John Rutter's 'Suite Antique'.
The second half of the performance continues with 'King Arthur walks in Rottingdean' by Betty Accorsi, 'Still I Wonder' by Nigel Goss, and a piano solo arrangement of George Gershwin's 'How long has this been going on' by Finnissy. The concert wraps up with the second and third movements of the 'Sonata Serenata' by John Hawkins.
The event starts at 14:00 at the Friends' Meeting House on Ship Street, BN1 1AF. It is currently listed as a free event, though it is always a good idea to double-check the official website before heading out, just in case there are any last-minute updates to the schedule or venue details. It seems like a straightforward, relaxed way to hear some chamber music in the city centre.
