Jim White + Ben De La Cour

Jim White and Ben de la Cour play Komedia Studio on Tuesday 4 May, a double bill presented by Melting Vinyl. It's an over-18s night, with the two songwriters sharing the stage rather than playing separate sets.

Jim White is a hard one to pin down. He's a multi-hyphenate who puts out solo albums, produces records for other artists, exhibits visual art across the US and Europe, and writes award-winning fiction. His music has turned up on screen a fair few times: the Primus-esque 'Word-Mule' appeared in the Heisenberg episode of Breaking Bad, and his duet with Aimee Mann, 'Static on the Radio', runs through the closing credits of El Camino. He also narrated the BBC documentary Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus back in 2003. Before the music took over, he worked as a dishwasher, lifeguard, cook, surfboard laminator and road builder, and spent thirteen years driving a New York City taxi. It was there he crossed paths with David Byrne, who signed him to a record deal. He was once a pro surfer and a European fashion model, and he's recently finished the novel Incidental Contact, a magical realism memoir whose chapter 'Superwhite' won the Pushcart Prize for short fiction.

Ben de la Cour is a songwriter who describes his style as 'Americanoir', weaving stories of desperate characters. The two come from different backgrounds, but they'll be sharing the same bill on the night.
