Stand-up comedy workshop with Jill Edwards, the Brighton teacher behind the Chortle Award-winning Comic Boom comedy club.
Jill Edwards is running her comedy workshops at Komedia throughout 2027, with the first session on 6 February. She's been teaching comedy in Brighton since 1994, when she moved here and set up what organisers call the original and best Brighton stand-up comedy course. In 2005 she founded the Chortle Award-winning comedy club Comic Boom at Komedia, and her courses have lived there ever since.
Over more than thirty years she's trained a long list of the UK's top comedy writers, performers and award-winning television comedians. Jimmy Carr, Romesh Ranganathan, Shaparak Khorsandi, Seann Walsh, Angela Barnes and Jack Skipper are among them. Ranganathan later put it, 'I wouldn't be a professional comic if it wasn't for Jill Edwards', and Barnes added, 'This comedy course can change your life, and I sincerely mean that.'
The classes run in an encouraging, supportive atmosphere and cover comedy writing, performance skills and how to start gigging. The skills you pick up apply to writing, presenting and public speaking as well as stand-up, so it works even if you've got no intention of stepping onto a stage. It's for ages 18 and over.
