Jazz Jamboree Orchestra

The Jazz Jamboree Orchestra play The Secret Garden in Kemptown on Saturday 12 September, from 19:00 to 21:00. It's an open-air concert in a Grade II listed Regency walled garden that was once the private pleasure ground of Sussex Square. The garden is now run by the Antony Dale Trust, a registered charity that relies largely on volunteers, and it opens seasonally, hosting sculpture exhibitions, educational activities, community events and a café on site.

The orchestra is a Sussex-based amateur ensemble directed by trombonist Mark Bassey, bringing together around 25 to 30 musicians across brass, saxophones, woodwind, a rhythm section and vocalists. Their repertoire ranges from jazz classics like Duke Ellington and Abdullah Ibrahim to popular songs by Simon & Garfunkel and Freddie Mercury, alongside original compositions by Bassey and the orchestra. That mix of the well-known and the original should give you a good sense of what to expect on the night.
