James Lavelle, founder of Mo'Wax Records and UNKLE, performs a one-off post-Christmas show at Komedia Basement with local DJs.
James Lavelle plays the Komedia Basement on Tuesday 29 December, a one-off post-Christmas show in Brighton. He's billed as James Lavelle (Unkle / Mo'Wax), and he'll be joined by local DJs.
If the names on the bill don't ring a bell, it's because Lavelle has spent the last thirty years working mostly behind the scenes of global club culture. Born in Oxford in 1974, he's a DJ, electronic recording artist, and record label boss. He's as much known for his eclectic DJ sets as for his production work with UNKLE and for founding Mo'Wax, and he's widely regarded as a tastemaker and musical curator. In 2016, Matthew Jones directed The Man from Mo'Wax, a documentary about Lavelle's childhood and his rapid rise to fame after starting the label. He still hosts his regular radio show, Living in My Headphones, on Soho Radio.
This Brighton date is a special one-off following a year in which he's played across the UK and beyond, with the bookings ranging from intimate club nights and daytime sessions to rooftop parties. The night is for ages 14 and over, and the room holds 400, so it's a relatively small space for a name with this much history behind it.
