A comedic, time-travelling dive back into the 90s, following a mum raising a teenager who unexpectedly becomes a saint.
If you have been feeling a bit nostalgic lately, you might find the upcoming show Holy Shift! at the Brighton Fringe interesting. It is a comedy production by Comedy Playground that takes a look at the 90s, specifically through the lens of a mother trying to navigate life with her teenage daughter. The premise centres on the daughter’s sudden and unexpected turn towards sainthood, which leaves the mother scrambling to make sense of it all. She ends up revisiting her own teenage years, using her old diaries and a soundtrack of Madonna hits to try and understand this new dynamic. It sounds like a fairly specific, character-driven take on the usual generational clashes we all know.

The show is scheduled for two dates during the festival: the 9th and 10th of May 2026. Both performances start at 3:30 pm and take place at Comedy at the Caxton. The runtime is 60 minutes, which makes it a manageable addition to a weekend afternoon if you are already planning to be out and about in the city. It is worth noting that the show involves some audience interaction, so if you prefer to stay completely anonymous in the back row, that is something to keep in mind.
Regarding the logistics, the recommended age for the audience is 12 and up. The organisers have also specified that children under 2 are not permitted, so the 'Babes in Arms' policy does not apply here. Tickets are priced at £7 for standard entry, with a concession rate of £3 available. It is a straightforward setup for anyone looking to catch a bit of comedy during the Fringe without too much fuss.
