Psychedelic rock band Hollow Ship live at The Green Door Store, presented by Real Sounds.
Hollow Ship play The Green Door Store on Thursday 3 December, presented by Real Sounds. They're a four-piece psychedelic rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden, and this is their Brighton date.
If you're not familiar with them, their sound pulls from a few different places at once: early British psych, afro-rock rhythms and jazz-infused improvisation. It's a mix that puts them in the more expansive end of the psych scene, with a focus on instrumental storytelling and a live energy that leaves room for things to open up and breathe rather than sticking to a tight, rehearsed script. They describe their music as having a willingness to push genre boundaries, and that comes through in how they blend those influences.
The band was formed by multi-instrumentalist and producer Thomas E. Frank and guitarist Vincent Vensal, and they rounded out the line-up with drummer MΓ₯rten Magnefors and bassist Donovan von Martens. With four of them on stage, the set leans on the instrumental side of things, with the guitar and rhythm section doing most of the heavy lifting. It's the kind of gig where the focus is on the playing itself, and the way the songs evolve in the room.
