Gumdrop is known for their sound that pulls heavily from post-punk and shoegaze influences. They manage to blend diffuse, almost 'stargazing' guitars with really cold bass lines and industrial-sounding melodies, all driven by strong, powerful drum rhythms. This specific blend is what has earned them the description of 'multination post punk.' Although the band currently has its base in Bristol, they originally formed in Southampton, giving them a solid grounding in the South West music scene.
The four-piece group has already built up a solid reputation, having previously supported acts like Heavy Lungs and Lumer, and they were part of the lineup for the Wanderlust Festival back in 2024. If you’re interested in the heavier, moodier side of the local music scene, this gig should be on your radar. Since it’s a concert taking place in a venue, the event is likely ticketed, targeting adults and young people interested in this specific genre.
It’s also worth noting that Gumdrop keeps busy beyond just touring; they are scheduled to play a benefit event called 'Punks Against Thieves' at M32 Skatepark in Bristol later this year on Saturday, October 4th. But for now, the March 16th date gives us a chance to catch their unique post-punk sound right here in town.
