A facilitated inquiry into generational reflection and hope, part of the youth-led 'We, Generate' programme at Brighton Festival.
If you have been following the Brighton Festival programme, you might have noticed the 'We, Generate' initiative, which is entirely led by the Future Creative Leaders from Lighthouse. One of the sessions coming up on 25 May 2026 is titled 'Go Back and Get It: Exploring Sankofa'. It is taking place at the Brighton Dome Studio Theatre and is framed as a facilitated inquiry into generational reflection and hope. The core idea here is to look back at our history with a sense of purpose rather than just nostalgia, which feels like a distinct approach for a festival event.

The session is led by researcher and cultural strategist Dr Fez Sibanda. He is joined by a panel that includes activist and author Mikaela Loach, environmental justice technologist Joycelyn Longdon, and local storyteller and community leader Naiya. The structure of the event is quite interactive; it involves a live dialogue with the audience and the creation of a 'living manifesto' that will be written directly onto the walls of the venue. It is worth noting that this is specifically the 'Part I' of the event series.
Regarding the logistics, the doors open at 13:30 and the session itself begins at 14:00. It is open to anyone aged 14 and over, though keep in mind that if you are under 16, you will need to be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are priced at £10.00 for standard entry, with a reduced rate of £5.00 available for those under 30. There is also a £3.50 booking fee per order, unless you are a member, which is something to factor in when booking.
