A day dedicated to local archaeology featuring artifact handling sessions, drop-in talks, and arts and crafts activities for all ages.
If you are looking for a way to spend a Saturday in Brighton, the Festival of Archaeology is taking place at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery on July 25, 2026. It is a straightforward look at local history, focusing on how people have lived in and shaped our surroundings over time. The museum is organising the day to be quite hands-on, which is a nice change of pace if you usually just walk through exhibits without getting too involved.

The programme is split into two main sessions, running from 10:00 to 12:00 and again from 13:00 to 15:00. During these times, you can expect a mix of activities, including handling sessions where you can get a closer look at actual artefacts, as well as drop-in talks and arts and crafts stations. It is designed to be accessible for all ages, though there is a standard requirement that children under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult. It is a good opportunity to see some of the collection in a more interactive setting rather than just behind glass.
Regarding the logistics, you do not need to worry about booking separate tickets for the festival itself. Access to these activities is included with your entry to the Brighton Museum. It is a simple, low-pressure way to engage with some local history on a weekend, whether you are interested in the archaeology side of things or just looking for something different to do in the city centre.
