A comedy showcase featuring sketch, improv, character and physical comedy, hosted by Leslie Bloom.
Extra Topping is back at The Yellow Book on Saturday 19 September, and if you're not sure what that means, it's worth getting the premise straight: it's a comedy night, but not stand-up. There's no one standing alone with a mic telling jokes. Instead, it's a showcase of sketch, improv, character, physical and musical comedy—basically, the kind of stuff that doesn't quite fit into a standard comedy club slot. It's designed for the acts that are just a little bit different from the norm, so you're as likely to see a fully worked character piece or a musical sketch as you are a scene built on the fly from the crowd.
Hosting the night is Leslie Bloom, who describes herself as a fitness instructor, mother, investigator and occasional tarot card reader. That's a fair bit of ground to cover before the first act even takes the stage, and it sets the tone for the kind of eclectic, slightly off-beat energy the night goes for. The showcase pulls from the UK's sketch and improv scene, so the line-up changes from night to night, with different styles of comedy sharing the same bill.
This isn't a one-off, either. The 19 September date is part of a regular run on Saturday nights, with subsequent dates on 17 October, 21 November, 19 December, 16 January 2027, 20 February, 20 March, 17 April, 15 May, 19 June, 17 July and 21 August 2027. If you fancy it, you can keep coming back and see a completely different set of acts each time.
