Monthly queer and alternative comedy night in the Komedia Basement with stand-ups, character comedians, drag acts and musical performers, with resident MC Lee Peart.
Down the Hatch is back at Komedia on Sunday 7 February, one of its regular nights in the basement. It's a queer and alternative comedy club that runs on the first Sunday of the month, and this is one of the dates listed for the coming season, alongside 1 November 2026, 7 March, 4 April, 6 June and 4 July.
It's held in the Komedia Basement, right in the heart of the North Laine at 44-47 Gardner Street, and the night is billed as a world of inclusivity and unconventionality. The bill is wide open: queer stand-ups, character comedians, musical performers, drag acts, ventriloquists and other alternative acts all share the same stage. Resident MC Lee Peart runs the show, and allies are welcome too. The club picked up a Chortle Award in 2024, and the names that have come through over the years include Alan Carr, James Acaster, Zoe Lyons, Suzi Ruffell and Jessica Fostekew.
Komedia itself has been Brighton's premier independent entertainment venue for just under 30 years, home to the Komedia Comedy Club and named best venue in the south. The night also supports a charity partner; in 2026 it was the Allsorts Youth Project, a local charity working with LGBTQ+ children and young people under 26.
