Do you remember The Sussex Club? A Collecting and Reminiscing session

The Sussex Club is the focus of a collecting and reminiscing session at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery on Wednesday 22 July, starting at 17:30. It's an afternoon for lesbians of Sussex to get together, share stories, relive old dramas and catch up with old friends, all while looking through photos of the club.

For those who weren't there, The Sussex Club was a humble bar in a basement in Regency Square. It was the kind of place where you had to ring a bell to be admitted, and inside there was a dedicated area for performers and a pool table. It became a pivotal spot in the lives of many lesbians in Brighton and Hove, and for those who travelled in from further afield. The session is about bringing those memories back into the open.

There's a practical side to the evening too. The organisers are asking anyone who has photos of their time at The Sussex Club to bring them along, or to send images over to the QHS team. There will also be a sign-up for a social group, so if you're looking to keep the connections going beyond the night, that's your chance to get your name down.
