An immersive audio-visual experience exploring the life and work of David Bowie, using archive footage and reconfigured tracks, marking what would have been his 80th birthday.
David Bowie returns to the Brighton Dome from 16 July to 30 August 2027, in the Corn Exchange. It's an immersive experience produced by London venue Lightroom and designed by studio 59, written and directed by Mark Grimmer, who was creative director of the V&A's David Bowie Is exhibition. Sound design is by Gareth Fry, with Bowie's publicist of nearly four decades, Alan Edwards, as consultant producer.
The show draws on thousands of hours of film from the David Bowie Archive in New York, bringing together rare performance footage, interviews, photography, drawings, lyrics, personal notes and audio recordings from Space Oddity through to ā . Rather than leaning on his stage personas, it centres on the man behind the masks, arranged in thematic chapters around theatricality, spirituality, songwriting and the transformative power of creativity. Each track has been newly reconfigured by Fry, with Bowie's own voice as the sole one.
It's a symbolic return to the Brighton Dome, which banned him for life after fans tore up seats at a 1973 Ziggy Stardust concert; the venue has since forgiven him. The season marks what would have been his 80th birthday.
