A 60-minute revue celebrating the music of Cole Porter, staged as a charity fundraiser for St Margaret's Church, Rottingdean.
Cole - a Life in Two Tempos comes to St Margaret's Church in Rottingdean on Saturday 14 November, a 60-minute revue celebrating the music of Cole Porter. It's a single evening of his songs, held in the church on The Green, with the whole thing running for an hour.
If you're not familiar with the name, Porter was one of the great songwriters of the early twentieth century, known for his wit and his knack for a melody that sticks. This revue pulls from that catalogue, and because it's a revue rather than a full-length musical, it's more of a curated selection of songs than a story told from start to finish. The title, a Life in Two Tempos, points to the two sides of his writing: the sophisticated, fast-paced numbers and the slower, more melodic ones.
There's a bit more to the night than just the music, too. The performance is a charity fundraiser for St Margaret's Church, so the money raised goes back into the building. It's also part-funded by The Music Licence (PPL PRS), which helps get the show on the boards.
