Chris Helme, frontman of The Seahorses, performs Seahorses classics and songs from his solo album 'World of my Own' at The Prince Albert.
Chris Helme plays The Prince Albert on Thursday 11 March, from 19:30 to 22:30. He's the frontman of The Seahorses, the band John Squire formed after the Stone Roses, and he's spent the years since that era building a solo career of his own.
The set will draw on both sides of that history. He'll be playing Seahorses classics alongside songs from his latest album, World of my Own, which he describes as a diary of a ten-year period in his life. There'll be other selections from the solo work that followed his 2012 record The Rookery, so it's a mix of the early band material and the more recent solo stuff.
That solo work has earned its own set of descriptions. Q called his style 'dreamy but driven indie folk', and Uncut likened his voice to the fragility of Gram Parsons and the rustic side of Neil Young. He's also known for the honesty and the anecdotes he shares between songs, drawing on three decades in the music industry, and for raw, enthralling live performances.
