Cheap Dirty Pride III

Cheap Dirty Pride III is back at The Hope & Ruin on Saturday 1 August, the third annual alternative pride dayer run by the queer band Cheap Dirty Horse. It runs from 14:00 to 23:00, so it's a full day of live music rather than a single evening show.

Cheap Dirty Horse are a rowdy queer trash folk-punk act from Nottingham, and they're the ones behind the whole thing. Their sound blends acoustic and electric guitar with banjo, accordion, bass, and drums, and they'll throw in a mandolin every now and then. It's a big, folk-leaning setup that fits the dayer format — plenty of room to settle in for the afternoon and stay on through the evening.

The line-up for this year is a long one, with nine acts in total: Ace Ambrose, Breakup Haircut, Cheap Dirty Horse, COWZ, Floralis, Leibniz, Strange New Places, Sunny Side Down, and THWACK. There are a couple of local names in the mix, too: COWZ are a Brighton alt-pop duo, and Floralis is an anarcho queer trans woman of colour. Between them, they'll be taking turns across the afternoon and evening, so you can drop in for a few sets or hang out for the whole run.

Beyond the music, it's a fundraiser, with money going to charities like Branches of the Levant and Transcend Borders. The venue, The Hope & Ruin, is a 150-capacity space above a busy pub, known for hosting live shows from local and international artists. One practical thing to keep in mind: the day is all ages until 8pm, and then it becomes 18+, so if you're bringing younger ones, you'll want to head out before then. The music runs from 14:00 to 23:00.
