A beginner-friendly line dancing session for the LGBTQIA+ community, with three taught dances and open floor time to a mix of country classics and queer pop.
Chaps & Straps returns to the Komedia Basement on Tuesday 27 October, a queer line dancing night built by and for LGBTQIA+ people. It's a space to come together and dance, and the format is straightforward: over the course of the evening you'll learn three line dances, each taught for about half an hour, with plenty of open dance floor in between to practice and let loose to a mix of country classics and queer pop anthems.
The sessions are completely beginner-friendly and open to all levels of confidence, experience and enthusiasm. The steps are taught with options to suit different gender expressions, and a particular welcome is extended to trans, intersex and non-binary people. You're encouraged to dress up — think cowboy hats, denim, leather and rhinestones — or just come as you are.
Hosting the night is Lee Peart, whom reviewers describe as warm, funny and a sharp compere. He'll be guiding you through the dances and keeping the energy going between the lessons, so if you're worried about your first time on the floor, you're in safe hands.
