Captain Accident is the project of a Cardiff-based artist who writes, records and produces everything in his own home studio. He describes his sound as a blend of soulful lovers rock, roots reggae, ska, dub and rocksteady. It's a wide net to cast, but those styles all sit within the same family tree, so they pull together rather than clash. The lovers rock brings the soul, the roots and rocksteady provide the foundation, and the ska and dub add the off-beat energy and space.
While the recording happens in Cardiff, the live show is where the sound gets fleshed out. Captain Accident brings it to the stage with a collective of musicians he calls The Disasters. They're the ones who turn the studio tracks into a full-band performance, and the live set is built around soulful vocals, soaring twin guitars and what they describe as a truly infectious groove. The twin guitars are a particular feature of the sound, giving the melodies more room to breathe and adding a bit of weight to the arrangements.
