Caitlin Cook: The Hero We (Sort Of) Need

Caitlin Cook brings her new show, The Hero We (Sort Of) Need, to Komedia on Saturday 3 October. If you haven't come across her before, she's best known for The Writing on the Stall, the musical built around bathroom graffiti. This one is a comedy hour of new songs, stories and projected visuals, and it's built around a theory she's had since childhood: that everyone has a superpower. The punchline is what happens when, in a world of eight billion people, your special gift turns out to be comically specific.

Opening the night is A.J. Holmes, who's spent a good chunk of his career on the musical theatre stage. He played Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon across Broadway, Chicago, the first US National Tour, the West End and the Australian company. He was also a founding member of Team StarKid, where he co-wrote the music and lyrics of A Very Potter Musical with Darren Criss and composed Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier. His own one-man musical, Yeah, But Not Right Now, sold out the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, the Adelaide Fringe in 2020 and the Soho Playhouse in 2021.

It's a night of two musical comedians, so the songs are a big part of both sets. Cook's hour mixes those new songs with stories and projected visuals, and the whole thing runs as a comedy hour. It's unreserved seating, and the show is recommended for ages 16 and over.

Doors open at 7:30 pm and the show starts at 8:00 pm at Komedia Studio, 44-47 Gardner Street, Brighton, BN1 1UN. Tickets are £19.00.
