Brushy One String

Brushy One String plays Komedia on Wednesday 30 September, his first Brighton date in a while. He's a one-man show, and the whole thing centres on a handmade one-string guitar that he builds and plays himself. It's a high-energy set rooted in Jamaican tradition, blending reggae, folk and blues into something that's hard to pin to a single genre.

He describes his shows as raw and joyful, and that's a fair way to put it. He's built an international following as a touring artist, with performances that have gone viral online and reached millions, which has taken him to major festivals and venues across Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean. The Brighton date is a standing show, so you'll be on your feet for the whole thing.

There's new material to hear, too. He's currently promoting a new album recorded in Africa, and he's recently released a track with Sean Paul, so the set will draw from those alongside his older stuff. The one-string guitar is the star of the night, and seeing how much sound he can pull out of it is a good part of the draw.

Doors open at 7:30 pm at Komedia Basement, 44-47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN. Tickets are £21, and the show is for ages 14 and over, with under-16s needing to be accompanied by an adult.
