Bruce Foxton, former bassist of The Jam, performs on his 50-year tour celebrating the band's legacy, with special guests.
Bruce Foxton plays CHALK on Friday 3 December, the final date of his 50 Years of The Jam tour. It's a bit of a full-circle moment for the night: The Jam played their last ever concerts here in Brighton back in 1982, so this closes the tour in the same city where they called it a day.
The tour marks 50 years since The Jam released their debut album In The City on Polydor in 1977. From there they grew into one of the UK's most important groups, with number one singles like 'Start!', 'Going Underground', 'Town Called Malice' and 'Beat Surrender'. Foxton played bass on every recording The Jam ever made, and he stepped up as lead vocalist and songwriter on tracks like 'News of the World' — which later became the theme tune to the BBC's Mock The Week — as well as 'Smithers-Jones' and 'Carnaby Street'.
He's not on his own for this one. Joining him on stage are Mark Brzezicki of Big Country, Andrew Fairclough of Secret Affair, and Craig Joiner of Romeo's Daughter, plus some very special guests. It's a proper band around him rather than a solo turn, with Brzezicki bringing the Big Country drumming and Fairclough and Joiner filling out the rest.
