This new production is being staged by The Brighton Shakespeare Company and is classified as a surrealist comedy. If you’re looking for a traditional take on the Bard, this isn't it. The premise alone sets the tone: the story follows two people who find themselves stranded on a desert island, accompanied only by a genie and the Complete Works of William Shakespeare. The show has been described as feeling like “Waiting for Godot meets William Shakespeare via the cartoons of Gary Larson,” which should give you a clear idea of the kind of off-kilter humour to expect.
If this sounds like your kind of evening, the show is running across two weekends in May 2026 at The Lantern Theatre, located at 77 St James's Street, BN2 1PA. The confirmed dates are May 15, 16, 17, and then again on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Note that all performances are scheduled for a late start, kicking off at 9:00 PM (21:00).
Tickets are currently set at £12.50 for a standard entry, though it’s always wise to check the booking site directly, as prices can sometimes shift closer to the date. For any specific queries about the venue itself, you can reach The Lantern Theatre at 01273 818266 or check their website at http://lanterntheatrebrighton.co.uk/.
