An evening of early music performance by BREMF Emerging Artists ensembles in the welcoming atmosphere of The Rose Hill.
BREMF Clubnight returns to The Rose Hill on Saturday 20 October, the annual clubnight that brings together the ensembles of the Brighton Early Music Festival's Emerging Artists scheme. It's a relaxed evening of short sets from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods, played in the pub atmosphere of The Rose Hill, 70 Rose Hill Terrace, BN1 4JL.
If you're not familiar with the Emerging Artists scheme, it's the festival's way of supporting early-career musicians, and this night is when those ensembles step out of the rehearsal room and onto the stage. Rather than one long concert, the music is broken into short sets, so you'll hear a few different groups over the course of the evening. The repertoire spans several centuries, with pieces from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods, and the pub setting means you can move around and listen as you like rather than staying in one seat for the whole thing.
It's a casual way to get into early music, too. You don't need to know your way around a score or a period instrument to enjoy it, and the format lets you hear a good range of styles in one go. The Rose Hill is a welcoming spot, and the evening is built around that pub feel, so it's as much about the atmosphere as the music.
