Award-winning positive comedy competition where comedians compete using elaborate compliments and kindness, strictly for ages 18+.
If you’re looking for something genuinely different in Brighton’s comedy scene, you should check out Boast in Show at Komedia Studio. This isn't your typical stand-up night; it completely flips the script on the usual 'roast battle' format. Instead of tearing each other down with insults, comedians compete to be the most positive, creative, and kind. It’s a competition where the goal is to shower the judges with elaborate compliments, original songs, poems, and even extravagant gifts. The core rule is simple and refreshing: everything is allowed, except hurting anyone’s feelings. This unique approach has clearly resonated, as the format—created by comedian Carl Carzana and produced by Dawn Williams—was the winner of the Chortle Award for Best Live Comedy Format in the Southeast 2025.

The show takes place in the intimate setting of the Komedia Studio, located right in the heart of North Laine at 44-47 Gardner Street. It’s worth noting that this is strictly an 18+ event, so keep that in mind when planning a night out. When you go, expect unreserved cabaret seating, which adds to the relaxed, club atmosphere. Komedia is known for being a premier independent venue, and they make the evening easy by offering a full food and drink menu. If you want to save a bit of cash, you can even grab a 'Meal Deal' ticket beforehand.
If you want to catch a show, they have several dates lined up for the rest of the year, all starting at 8:00 PM (doors open at 7:30 PM). The next one is coming up soon on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, which is a special April Fools' Day edition titled 'Living in a Prankster’s Paradise', hosted by Carl Carzana himself. Following that, you can mark your calendar for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and the final show of the year on Wednesday, December 2, 2026. It’s a great way to see some high-effort, low-stakes comedy that focuses entirely on good vibes.
