An award-winning live comedy show where comedians battle with compliments instead of insults, hosted by Carl Carzana.
If you have spent enough time in the Brighton comedy scene, you have probably noticed that the standard format often relies on roasting or sharp insults. It is a well-worn path, but there is a different approach happening over at the Komedia Studio on Gardner Street. The show is called Boast In Show, and it flips the script entirely by replacing the usual jabs with elaborate compliments and grand gestures. Instead of trying to tear each other down, the comedians on stage compete to see who can be the most supportive and creative in celebrating their opponents.

This format was created by comedian Carl Carzana, who also hosts the event. His style is often compared to a mix of Mr. Bean and Bruce Forsyth, which gives the evening a specific, slightly eccentric energy. The show has gained some recognition, picking up the Chortle Award for Best Live Comedy Format in the South in both 2025 and 2026. The core rule is simple: no one’s feelings are meant to be hurt. It is an interesting experiment in how comedy can function without a victim, focusing instead on positivity and a bit of absurdity.
For those interested in checking it out, there are a few dates scheduled for 2026. The next one is coming up on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. Doors open at 19:30, and the show starts at 20:00. If that date does not work for you, there are further sessions planned for 16 September and 2 December of the same year. The event is strictly for those aged 18 and over.
Regarding the logistics, it is a ticketed event held at the Komedia Studio, located at 44-47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN. Prices currently sit at £10.00 for concessions and £12.00 for standard tickets, though it is worth keeping in mind that these can fluctuate. It is a straightforward setup: you grab a ticket, head to the venue, and see how the comedians handle the challenge of being relentlessly nice to one another for an hour or so. It is a distinct change of pace from the usual open mic circuit.
