Boast in Show

Boast in Show is back at Komedia on Wednesday 2 December, with the show starting at 8:00 pm and doors opening at 7:30 pm. It's a comedy night that flips the roast battle on its head: instead of tearing an opponent down, the comedians compete to outdo each other with compliments, kindness and absurd challenges. The only rule is that contestants must not hurt each other's feelings.

What that looks like in practice is where it gets funny. Rather than insults, the battle is fought with heartfelt poems, original songs and extravagant gifts, with each act trying to be more thoughtful and over-the-top than the last. It's a roast in reverse, and the whole thing is built around being nice to each other.

The show was created by comedian Carl Carzana and produced by fellow comedian Dawn Williams. It started out in Brighton's backstreet bars before moving to the Komedia, which is billed as the best-known comedy venue in the South East. It's picked up some recognition along the way, winning the Chortle Award for Best Live Comedy Format in the South in both 2025 and 2026.

And there is a prize for the winner: a handcrafted self-portrait Carzana trophy, painted in oil that never quite dries. Tickets are £10 for concessions and £12 standard, though those are guide prices and subject to change. The night runs from the Komedia Studio at 44-47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN.
