Black Octopus are celebrating their eighth birthday at Quarters on Saturday 26 September, with Motor City Drum Ensemble taking the main slot. It's a club night marking eight years of the label, and they've brought in one of the more respected selectors working right now to lead it.
Motor City Drum Ensemble is the project of Danilo Plessow, a name that carries a fair bit of weight with anyone who spends time digging through house, disco and soul. He's known for a deep knowledge of those styles and for the meticulous way he puts his sets together, so if you're into the more soulful, well-curated side of dance music, this is exactly the kind of night he's built his reputation on.
He's not playing alone, though. Joining him are Brighton regulars Pablo Contraband and Ellie Talebian, two names that should be familiar if you've spent any time on the city's dancefloors. Having them on the bill turns the whole thing into a hometown celebration of the label's history rather than just a one-off booking. Between the three of them, the night covers a lot of ground, with MCDE bringing the international draw and Contraband and Talebian keeping it rooted in the local scene.

It's a daytime affair, running from 16:00 to 22:00 on Saturday 26 September at Quarters, 187-193 Kings Rd, Arches, BN1 1NB. Entry is strictly over-18s, and they're clear about the door: no ID, no entry.
