Progressive metal band Anciients return to the UK on their Ascent of the Fallen Ones tour, performing tracks from their 2024 album Beyond the Reach of the Sun.
Anciients play DUST on Wednesday 7 October, their first UK date in over a decade. The Canadian progressive metal band are touring their new album, Beyond the Reach of the Sun, as part of a fifteen-date run across the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Spain and Portugal this autumn. The tour, titled Ascent of the Fallen Ones, opens on 26 September in Leeuwarden and closes on 15 October in Bragança.
Beyond the Reach of the Sun is their first record in eight years, ten songs recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver with producer Jesse Gander. It's the most dynamic work they've put out to date, and the first to feature synthesised and keyboard parts. Kenny Cook wrote all the lyrics, and the music is built on layered guitar passages and the time-signature shifts driven by drummer Mike Hannay. The album was released in 2024 on Season of Mist and went on to win a JUNO Award.
Based in British Columbia, Anciients have spent the last few years working their way back to the UK and Europe. This is their first headline tour here in more than ten years, and the Brighton date falls about halfway through the run. If you've followed them from the start, it's their first time back on these shores since before the new album was even a thing. If you're coming to them fresh, this is the first chance to hear the new material live in the UK.
