An immersive theatrical cocktail experience where guests 'smuggle' liquor into a prison-themed bar to have cocktails made by 'inmate' bartenders while avoiding the Warden.
If you’ve been wandering around the seafront near 13 Kings Road lately, you might have noticed the entrance to Alcotraz Brighton. It’s an immersive theatrical experience that’s been part of the local scene for a while, focusing on a prison-themed cocktail night. The premise is fairly straightforward but requires a bit of preparation: it’s a BYOB venue, so you have to bring your own sealed bottle of spirits. The suggestion is usually a 35cl bottle for two people or a 70cl one for a group of four. Once you arrive, you’re given an orange jumpsuit—they stock sizes from XS to 4XL—and you’re processed into the system to begin your 'sentence' in the cell blocks.

The experience lasts about 105 minutes and is led by a cast of actors playing the Warden, the guards, and an inmate named Cassidy. While you’re there, you have to try and keep your alcohol hidden from the Warden while the inmate bartenders use your spirits to mix up bespoke cocktails. You’ll either be seated in a Prison Cell or at the Prison Canteen, depending on your booking. Because of the nature of the event, it’s strictly for those aged 18 and over. It’s a very specific type of night out, leaning heavily into the roleplay aspect, so it tends to attract groups looking for something more structured than a typical bar visit.
Financially, tickets are tiered and the price changes depending on the day, usually ranging from £31 to £66 per person. You can choose between The Rookie entry, The Associate—which includes a souvenir mugshot—or The Boss, which comes with a branded tin cup and some sweets. Since today is Sunday, the sessions are running on a slightly shorter schedule from 14:15 until 18:25. For the rest of the week, they’re closed on Mondays, with evening slots starting at 19:05 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and later finishes up to 23:15 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It’s a well-established spot in Brighton for those who want a bit of theatre with their drinks, as long as you don't mind wearing a jumpsuit for a couple of hours.
