Shorter 20.5-mile cycling route finishing in Brighton, ideal for beginner or returning riders, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.
We all know the huge London to Brighton Bike Ride, but this year, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is offering a new, much more manageable option for those who want to participate without tackling the full 54 miles. Itâs the 20.5 Mile Ride, happening on Sunday, June 21, 2026. This route is specifically designed for beginners, returning riders, families, or anyone looking for a perfect first taste of the classic event while raising funds for BHFâs heart disease research.

The ride covers the final 20.5 miles (about 33 km) of the main route. Instead of starting in London, you kick off at the Ardingly Showground, which is the halfway point for the longer route. Start times are staggered between 8:30 am and 9:30 amâyouâll get your specific slot closer to the date, based on the ability level you provide when registering. The finish line is the iconic Madeira Drive on the Brighton seafront, where you join the main event celebrations. Registration for this shorter option is ÂŁ30. While thereâs no minimum fundraising requirement, the BHF suggests aiming for ÂŁ350; hitting that goal gets you a free BHF cycling jersey.
Since this route targets newer cyclists, the support is robust. Youâll find two dedicated rest stops along the way, offering food, mechanical help, and medical assistance. They also have 'Ride Rangers' supporting cyclists on the road. Remember, wearing a helmet is mandatory just to cross the start line. The minimum age to participate is 14, provided they have parental consent and ride with an accompanying adult.
If youâre worried about logistics, parking is free at Ardingly Showground for participants in this route. However, note that the bag transfer service is not available for the 20.5-mile option. If you need transport back to Ardingly after finishing in Brighton, there is an optional bus and bike trailer service available for ÂŁ35. Regardless of how fast you go, everyone who crosses the finish line receives an exclusive 2026 medal.
