Sussex Day 2026: Markets, Music and Yoga

Sussex Day is just around the corner on Tuesday 16 June 2026, and the county is gearing up for a series of local celebrations. If you are looking to mark the occasion, the main hub of activity is The BIG Sussex Day, a free community event taking place on Saturday 13 June 2026 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The gathering is set for the Newhaven Bandstand on Denton Island (BN9 9BA). It is a great opportunity to see the raising of the Sussex Martlets flag, hear the recitation of the Sussex Charter, and listen to the unofficial Sussex anthem, "Sussex by the Sea," performed live by the jazz trio Amuse Manouche.

For those interested in local shopping and wellness, the event on Denton Island features market stalls with local products, jewellery, clothes, and home items, alongside various food options. The schedule also includes interactive workshops such as a yoga session, a Thai dance workshop, self-defence and martial arts basics, and mini massages. If you prefer other activities, there will be a chess competition and craft workshops running during the afternoon.

If you are planning to make a day of it around the Brighton and Newhaven area, there are several local spots to visit. You can head to the Grade II listed Saltdean Lido on Saltdean Park Road to enjoy its 40m heated outdoor pool, or visit The Grange Museum, Art Gallery & Tea Garden in Rottingdean, which is open Wednesday to Sunday. Brighton Marina* is also nearby, offering boat trips, sailing, and water sports. Additionally, the wider region has plenty of other events scheduled around mid-June, including live performances like Punchlove and Forbidden Nights on 13 June, and the upcoming English Wine Week starting on 20 June.
