The announcement of a new city-centre games arcade has brought Brighton’s gaming scene back into focus. While specific details about this upcoming venue are still being finalized, the city already has a variety of established spots that cater to both retro fans and those looking for modern experiences. A significant part of this landscape is the Imperial Arcade on Western Road. This 101-year-old Art Deco building, originally constructed in 1923 on the site of a former brewery, is currently being revitalized by Moretons Investments. In the past, it was a busy hub with 17 shops, but it eventually fell into a state of neglect. The current redevelopment is transforming it into a commercial space with luxury flats above. New entrances have been added on Western Road and Dyke Road, and the interior now features a ceiling decorated with colourful umbrellas. While it currently houses businesses like Tee Tea, a pizza restaurant, and Filtered coffee shop, there are still retail units available for lease that could further add to the city's entertainment offerings.

Down on the seafront, the Brighton Palace Pier remains a central location for arcade enthusiasts. The Palace of Fun and The Dome provide a range of gaming options that span several decades of technology. The Palace of Fun is the place for traditional experiences, featuring coin pushers, 'Penny Falls' 2-pence machines, and rhythm games. It holds the distinction of being the first arcade in the UK to introduce the 'Guitar Hero' machine. For those who prefer more modern setups, The Dome offers VR experiences, digital racing, and shooters such as 'House of the Dead' and 'Time Crisis'. Since today is Friday, these areas are open until 18:00, though they stay open until 21:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Not far from the pier, located under the Kings Road Arches, Players offers a different environment. It combines standard arcade machines with activities like axe throwing, rage rooms, beer pong, and darts, staying open until 23:00 every day of the week.
Further inland on London Road, The World's End serves as a prominent venue for those interested in retro gaming and social activities. The multi-level arcade includes favorites like 'Time Crisis' and a selection of Nintendo 64 classics, including 'Mario Kart'. A standout feature here is the World's Raceway, a 10-player remote control racetrack that comes with live commentary. The venue also hosts a Victorian-themed escape room called 'Lady Chastity's Revenge', which incorporates various special effects. If you are heading there tonight, they are open until 01:00, which is their usual Friday and Saturday schedule. For anyone planning a visit during the week, there are several offers to consider. On Mondays, students can get half-price burgers and fries with a valid ID between 17:00 and 21:00. Thursdays feature a date night deal with two burgers and fries for £16.50, and Wednesdays are dedicated to a margarita promotion. Additionally, Hollywood Bowl at the Brighton Marina provides a more standard arcade experience with racing games, shooters, and air hockey. These venues collectively offer a wide range of options for weekend entertainment or hosting alternative birthday parties in the city.
