If you have noticed your friends talking about a sport that looks like a mix of tennis and squash, you are not alone. Padel has officially become the fastest-growing sport in the UK, and Sussex is quickly catching up with the trend. The local scene is expanding rapidly, making it easier than ever to book a court, grab a racket, and see what the fuss is about. Whether you want to play under a canopy to escape the British weather or enjoy an outdoor match, several new facilities are opening up right on our doorstep.

One of the most convenient spots to try it out is the Withdean Sports Complex, managed by Freedom Leisure. They recently opened three brand-new covered padel courts featuring a modern canopy imported from Europe, which means you can play all year round regardless of the rain. The courts also have floodlights for evening games and an on-site office where you can hire rackets for £4 an hour. Withdean operates on a 'Pay & Play' basis, so you do not need a membership to book. If you do decide to join, members get a discount on court fees and can book ten days in advance instead of seven. They also have coaches like Karen, Andy Paterson, and Jacob Kelly offering private and group lessons, alongside social tournaments and introductory sessions for beginners.
If you are willing to travel just slightly outside the city, there are more premium options on the horizon. The Padel Club is expanding its footprint with two major projects. Their upcoming Brighton site will feature four covered and two outdoor courts, complete with a clubhouse, cafe, and shower facilities. Meanwhile, they are also planning a site in Albourne at Q Leisure, which will offer a similar setup of four covered and two open-air courts. Additionally, Club Padel in Shoreham-by-Sea is preparing to open a premium indoor venue at Fishermans Wharf in autumn 2026. This club will feature six indoor courts with professional surfaces, a bar overlooking the playing area, and bookings managed via the Playtomic app, offering various membership tiers alongside pay-as-you-go options.
