The upcoming weekend of June 20-21, 2026, which coincides with the summer solstice, is set to bring two major environmentally focused events to Brighton's Madeira Drive. This weekend highlights the city's ongoing strategy to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, a goal originally declared back in 2018. With Brighton already supporting a strong electric vehicle charging network—including plans by Char.gy to install up to 6,000 charging points in the coming years—and utilizing a fleet of hybrid buses in the city centre, these events fit right into the local infrastructure.

On Saturday, June 20, the 6th London to Brighton Electric Vehicle (EV) Rally will see over 100 electric vehicles travel from Westminster down to Madeira Drive. The rally is expected to bring between 35,000 and 40,000 visitors to the seafront. Alongside the vehicles, there will be a free family festival featuring live music, stunt shows, circus workshops, slackline challenges, sustainable transport demonstrations, and interactive exhibitions. Attendees can participate in test drives, view charging demonstrations, and learn about the efficiency challenge. Brands like BYD, Geely, Maeving, Tates Motor Group, Roxform, Hankook Tyre UK, Believ, and Char.gy are participating, and the event supports Macmillan Cancer Support and Martlets Hospice. The following day, Sunday, June 21, the British Heart Foundation's London to Brighton Bike Ride will bring thousands of cyclists down a 54-mile route from London straight to the seafront.
For those looking for alternative ways to mark the solstice, several other local gatherings are scheduled. On Friday, June 19, you can find the 'Seasons of the Self: Summer Solstice Gathering' from 18:30 to 20:00 at Plot 22, Weald Allotments in Hove, featuring movement, meditation, and tarot readings with Lily Henley. There is also a Solstice Sound and Energy Healing Ceremony at 18:30 at Essex Place in Brighton. On Saturday, June 20, MIDSUMMER FEST 2026 starts at 17:00 at the Banjo Groyne. Sunday, June 21, offers a Solstice Breathwork session at 13:30 at SPACE Yoga Studio in St Augustines, a Deep Listening outdoor session at 19:00 at The Secret Garden (Antony Dale Trust), and 'The Seaside Siblinghood' Holistic Craft Fair starting at 11:00 at the Brighton Unitarian Church.
Because Brighton is compact, getting around is generally easiest on foot or using Beryl bikes, though the scale of these weekend events means visitors should expect local road closures and busy streets. If you are planning your schedule, the broader summer calendar also includes the Brighton Oyster Festival running from June 19 to June 28, and the Funny That Comedy Festival on June 24.
