Spring is starting to show up in Sussex, and if you are looking to get your hands dirty, there are several specific workshops coming up in and around Brighton. At One Garden Brighton in Stanmer Park, the Brighton Permaculture Trust is running a fruit tree grafting session on Saturday, 7 March 2026. It runs from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and covers the whip and tongue technique for trees like apple, pear, and plum. They use a sliding scale for the fee, ranging from £30 for concessions up to £100 for those on higher incomes. Participants learn about rootstock selection and tool maintenance, and you get to take home the tree you graft during the afternoon.

For those who prefer working with flowers, Nina at Floranina has a busy schedule across Hove and Ditchling. Starting next Tuesday, 24 February 2026, she is at Notcutts Garden Pride in Ditchling for a carnation bouquet workshop, followed by an Easter nest session on 31 March and spring bulbs on 28 April. These sessions are usually £35 and include all the flowers and materials. In Hove, she is hosting an Easter design workshop at Bishop Hannington Church on 7 March for £40. If you are looking for something more long-term, Aldridge Adult Learning in Portslade has a five-week floristry course starting on 24 February 2026, with another term beginning in June. There is also a Mother and Daughter tote bag painting workshop at Puzzle Bored on New Road on 12 March for £30, which is a more relaxed craft afternoon.
Beyond the garden, the local creative scene includes some heavier-duty skills. The Salvage Sister runs DIY power tool workshops for absolute beginners in Brighton, with prices starting around £86. They also offer creative metalwork and welding courses if you want to try something different from traditional crafts. If you are after a more meditative experience, Magdalena’s studio in West Hove offers intuitive abstract painting. There is a one-day workshop on 22 March 2026 for large abstracts and an art journaling session on 29 March. One Garden Brighton also hosts a botanical pottery workshop with Sarah Vosmer on 18 April and an eco-hanging basket session on 25 April.
While garden photography and stained glass making are popular categories in the Sussex area, many people use these spring months to capture the seasonal blooms in local gardens or join craft hubs in the city centre. The variety of locations means you do not have to stay right in the middle of Brighton. Between the walled gardens at Stanmer Park and the community centres in Portslade and Hove, most of these spots are accessible by local buses or a short train ride. Many of these workshops, like the ones at One Garden, offer small discounts at their markets or cafes on the day of the event, making it easier to spend a full day out learning something new.
