If you have spent the last few weeks planning your September, it is worth making room for a weekend of cosplay and collectibles. Brighton & Hove Comic Con is back at the Brighton Dome on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, and it is shaping up to be the kind of day out that works as well for a family as it does for a dedicated fan.

The convention is spread across the Corn Exchange and the Studio Theatre over on New Road, with the main venue and ticket office sitting on Church Street, so it is worth knowing the two addresses before you set off. It runs from 10am to 6pm on both days, with doors opening right at 10am, and a ticket covers you for the whole day, including re-entry until closing. One rule to be aware of before you book: no unaccompanied children under 14 are allowed in the venue, so if you are bringing younger ones, you will need to be there with them.
On the guest front, the first name through the door is Chris Bunn, one of the original Star Wars Stormtroopers, who has agreed to attend. He is the first of what is expected to be a wider line-up, with more guests, attractions and exhibitors still to be announced, so the full shape of the weekend is still taking form.
Price-wise, there is a tiered system that keeps it accessible for families. A single day ticket is £22.50 for adults aged 16 and over, £18.50 for youth aged 11 to 15, and £14.50 for children aged 6 to 10. If you want to make a full weekend of it, the two-day pass comes in at £38.50 for adults, £29.50 for youth and £22.50 for children, which is a fair saving over buying two separate days. Under-sixes get in free, though they still need a ticket, so it is worth sorting theirs at the same time as everyone else's. It is also worth a nod to the building itself, because it is not your average hall. The Brighton Dome is a Grade I listed building, part of the historic Royal Pavilion Estate, and it has been standing since 1867, with the Concert Hall, Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre all under one roof. It is owned by Brighton & Hove City Council and went through a major renovation between 1999 and 2002, so the whole place has a bit of character behind it.
Whether you are going for the guests, the cosplay or just to browse the stalls, it is a family-friendly day out that pulls together comics, film, television, gaming, anime and pop culture under one roof. With the doors opening at 10am and the whole thing running until 6pm, there is plenty of time to wander around at your own pace, and the tiered ticket prices make it an easy one to bring the whole family along for.
